Job summary

Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College seeks a part-time Tutoring Center Assistant, Biology, to support the Science Tutoring Lab and provide quality tutoring to AB Tech students. The role focuses on ensuring a fast-paced, professional lab environment and tutoring in biology courses.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in Biology or related field, excellent communication, and strong interpersonal skills. Experience in an educational lab is preferred; hours are less than 25 per week.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher with significant coursework in Biology.
• Excellent human relations skills.
• Patience and the ability to multi-task.
• Excellent oral and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional tutorial services in Biology courses.
• Supervise lab aides and peer tutors as needed.
• Supervise lab activities.
• Assist instructors and department chairs as requested.
• Communicate effectively with students, instructors, and staff to troubleshoot and solve problems related to the lab environment. Provide customer service.
• Occasional data entry, record keeping, and general office duties.
• Provide a positive environment for student learning.
• Implement and enforce A-B Tech regulations, including the prevention of unauthorized persons from using lab facilities and equipment.
• Other duties as assigned by the TC Coordinator.
