Job summary

Goodwill Industries Southern New England Inc is seeking a Retail Material Handler in the New York area. The role involves moving materials, aiding donors and customers, and preparing donations for processing.

You will work under the Store/Outlet Manager with regular weekend, holiday, and evening hours. A high school diploma is preferred, and 1–3 months related experience is typical. This position offers benefits such as PTO, health coverage, retirement plan, and tuition reimbursement.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred, not required; and one to three months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Students under the age of 18 years still enrolled in High School may be hired to fill part-time positions but may not operate the compactor, floor cleaning machine, straddle stacker or any other hazardous equipment and must abide by the CT DOL regulations regarding hours of work for minors in the workplace.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
• Ability to operate hand truck.

Responsibilities

• Move materials using hand truck, pallet jack, or other equipment as directed.
• Assist donors by carrying donated merchandise from their vehicle into the store and assist customers by carrying purchases to their vehicle.
• Sort, price and stock newly arrived goods for display and sale.
• Prepare inventory and maintain organized stock areas.
• Assist in preparing shipping documentation for materials being shipped from premises and ensure crates are labeled.
• Lift and move heavy objects as needed and maintain a clean work area.
