Job summary

Utica Public Library is seeking two Library Assistants (Part Time) in the Reference Department to join a busy urban library. You will staff the Reference Desk, assist patrons with catalogs, online resources, and basic tech help, and support interlibrary loan processes.

We welcome candidates with an associate degree or two years of college, strong communication and teamwork skills, and a commitment to outstanding public service.

Qualifications

• Asssociates degree or two years of college completed.
• Working knowledge of software applications, the Internet and online resources.
• Ability to work with a diverse group of library users.
• Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues to create a cohesive team.
• Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Staff the Reference Desk to provide reference service to patrons via in-person, phone, email, or chat.
• Assist patrons with computers and personal devices (laptops, cell phones, tablets).
• Instruct patrons in using the online catalog, indexes, Internet and other sources.
• Process reserve and interlibrary loan requests for patrons.
• Work cooperatively with other staff to provide information.
• Assist patrons with printing, scanning, and other library equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.
