Job summary

Utica Public Library is seeking two part-time Library Assistants for the Reference Department to deliver high-quality customer service in a bustling urban library.

The roles involve assisting patrons at the Reference Desk, guiding them in using catalogs and online resources, and handling interlibrary loan requests. 18 hours weekly per position with daytime, two evenings, and occasional Saturday shifts.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree or completion of a minimum of two years of college study (required).
• Working knowledge of various software applications, the Internet, and online resources.
• Ability to work with a diverse group of library users.
• Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues to create a cohesive team.
• Commitment to customer-centered, quality public library service.

Responsibilities

• Provide reference service at the Reference Desk to patrons via phone, email, or visit.
• Assist patrons with computers and personal devices.
• Instruct patrons in using the online catalog, indexes, Internet and other sources.
• Process reserve and interlibrary loan requests for patrons.
• Work cooperatively with staff to provide information.
• Assist patrons with printing, scanning, and use of library equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.
