Job summary

Mohawk Valley Community College is seeking a Reference Librarian for the Utica Campus Library. This part-time, 10-month position involves providing general reference services in person and online and supporting information literacy instruction.

The role requires an ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS or anticipated completion by December 2026, strong customer service skills, and the ability to work independently in a bustling library environment.

• Assists with the creation of research guides and online tutorials in support of library instruction and other library services
• Oversees library facilities and ensure smooth operations at assigned campus location
• Contributes to special projects as assigned
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of College Libraries

The College is looking for exceptional colleagues to join the MVCC community. We are currently seeking a Reference Librarian for the Utica Campus Library.

Key Responsibilities For This Position Include

• Provides general reference services in person and online;
• Provides excellent customer service: welcome patrons, enforce library policies, assist in opening and closing the library as needed;
• Conducts instructional sessions as part of the library’s information literacy program;
• Provides computer-related assistance to patrons in library lab areas;
• Assists with the creation of research guides and online tutorials in support of library instruction and other library services;
• Oversees library facilities and ensure smooth operations at assigned campus location;
• Contributes to special projects as assigned;
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of College Libraries

Work Schedule

Possible shifts include Monday through Thursday, 4:00pm-9:00pm; Friday, 10:00am-3:00pm; and Sunday, 2:00pm-7:00pm. This is an academic-year position, working during the Fall and Spring semesters.
