Job summary

The City of Lynchburg Parks and Recreation invites applications for a Part-Time Recreation Specialist on the Neighborhood Centers Team. You will supervise a variety of classes, lead health/fitness activities, and help deliver inclusive programs for all ages.

Weekly hours vary by program and season. You will work under supervision and may oversee part-time, seasonal, or volunteer staff, coordinating registrations, safety, and community outreach. This is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Qualifications

• Completion of two years of coursework from an accredited college or university preferred.
• Considerable experience in a recreation setting, developing, implementing and supervising programs.
• Valid Virginia driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Must acquire CPR and First Aid certifications within six months and maintain.
• Flexible schedule; ability to work evenings and weekends.
• Must complete IS-100 and IS-700 National Incident Management training within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and evaluate a wide variety of classes and events for all ages.
• Lead and supervise health/fitness activities, games, and sports.
• Coordinate partnerships with local organizations and schools.
• Recruit, supervise, and evaluate instructors and volunteers.
• Manage registrations, fees, and donations; operate registration software.
• Ensure safety; inspect facilities and report issues.
• Attend operations meetings and assist with marketing materials.
