Job summary

Advocate Health in Milwaukee seeks a part-time phlebotomy technician for WI ACL Laboratories at Good Hope Road. You will verify patient IDs, collect venous and other specimens, perform limited testing per CLIA, and manage data entry and sample handling on a 0800–1200 schedule, Mon–Fri with weekend rotation.

Requires a high school diploma; no prior experience required. Strong communication and customer service skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced setting, and adherence to safety protocols

Qualifications

• Demonstrates knowledge and experience in phlebotomy or related laboratory function.
• Basic computer skills including experience using computer software applications.
• Keyboarding and typing skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Good listening skills.
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment and to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Demonstrated customer service skills to interface effectively with physicians, patients, visitors, and other healthcare employees.

Responsibilities

• Verifies positive patient identification to ensure patient safety.
• Performs Venipuncture and collects specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients.
• Obtains specimens according to priority, labels properly, and resolves problems.
• Performs limited testing under CLIA guidelines.
• Answers and screens telephone calls; assists with inventory and billing support.
• Receives, sorts, packages, and tracks specimens for transport; processes testing materials.
• Orders and verifies test requests; runs quality control checks; notifies providers of critical results.
• Performs laboratory result entry in the computer system.
• Instructs employees and students in phlebotomy and specimen processing functions.
