Job summary

Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (USDB) invites applications for a K–12 Physical Education (PE) and Adaptive Physical Education (APE) Paraprofessional. The role will be based at Salt Lake City and Springville campuses, totaling 26.5 hours per week, with no license required.

The incumbent will assist teachers in delivering PE/APE activities to diverse learners, including deaf and blind students, while lifting and moving equipment and maintaining records.

Qualifications

• ASL skills preferred, but not required.
• Experience working with deaf/hard of hearing and blind/low vision students is preferred.
• This position has strenuous physical requirements such as long periods of standing, walking, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities and possible recurring lifting of students who may have limited mobility and/or personal needs equipment, requiring the ability to lift and carry over fifty (50) pounds.

Responsibilities

• Assist PE/APE teacher with activities for deaf/hh, blind/low vision, and multiply disabled students.
• Prepare teaching materials and work with individual students.
• Communicate the progress of the students to the instructor.
• Perform duties to motivate and help students achieve in academics and skills areas.
• Assist with behavior interventions under the direction of the instructor.
• Maintain accurate records and logs.
• Design and/or prepare training/instructional materials under the direction of the instructor.
• Collaborate with team members to provide appropriate physical activities meeting student goals.
