Job summary

UPMC Passavant in Pittsburgh is seeking a Part-Time Patient Care Technician to join the 5 East Annex Flex Unit. You will provide direct patient care under RN supervision, support with ADLs, and help maintain a safe, clean environment.

This role offers rotating shifts totaling 24 hours per week and a starting pay grid by level, with positions including Care Attendant, Nursing Assistant, PCT, and Senior PCT.

Qualifications

• Direct patient care under RN direction including ADLs, procedures, and therapies
• Vital signs, telemetry, EKGs, point-of-care testing, specimens
• Unit support: respond to call lights, transport, meals, and supplies
• Infection control and safety protocols
• Documentation and clerical tasks as needed

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under RN direction, including assisting with ADLs, procedures, and therapies
• Perform core PCT responsibilities: vital signs, point-of-care testing, telemetry, specimens, EKGs, basic dressings
• Assist with unit operations: respond to call lights, transport, meals, and supplies
• Maintain a safe, clean, organized environment following infection control protocols
• Monitor patient condition and report changes promptly
• Document care accurately and complete clerical tasks as needed
• Support department activities and effective communication with patients and families
• Demonstrate professionalism and teamwork, seeking growth opportunities
• Respond to emergent situations with appropriate supervision or assistance

Qualifications

Title and rate of pay will be determined based upon individual qualifications, experience, and education. The minimum hourly starting rates for each level are as follows:

• Care Attendant: $18.19
• Nursing Assistant: $18.59
• Patient Care Technician: $18.99
• Patient Care Technician, Senior: $19.19

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under RN direction, including assisting with ADLs, procedures, and therapies
• Perform core PCT responsibilities, including vital signs, point-of-care testing, telemetry application, specimen collection, bladder scans, EKGs, and basic dressings
• Assist with unit and patient needs (e.g., responding to call lights, meal delivery, patient transport, and monitoring)
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment while following infection control and safety protocols
• Monitor patients and report changes in condition or equipment issues promptly
• Document care accurately and complete clerical tasks as needed
• Support unit operations by stocking supplies and assisting with department activities
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to support coordinated care
• Demonstrate professionalism by building positive relationships, supporting team initiatives, and seeking opportunities for growth and development
• Respond to emergent situations and provide patient supervision or assistance as appropriate
