Job summary

UPMC Passavant is seeking a Full-Time Patient Care Technician to join the 4 South Surgical Stepdown Unit. The role offers 36 hours per week with rotating shifts, including off-shift and holiday requirements.

Title and rate will be determined by qualifications and education, with starting pay levels listed below. Responsibilities include direct patient care under RN direction, vital signs, telemetry, EKGs, specimen collection, and core PCT duties.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under RN direction, including assisting with ADLs, procedures, and therapies
• Perform core PCT responsibilities, including vital signs, point-of-care testing, telemetry application, specimen collection, bladder scans, EKGs, and basic dressings
• Assist with unit and patient needs (call lights, meals delivery, patient transport, monitoring)
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment following infection control and safety protocols
• Monitor patients and report changes in condition or equipment issues promptly
• Document care accurately and complete clerical tasks as needed
• Support unit operations by stocking supplies and assisting with department activities
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to support coordinated care
• Demonstrate professionalism by building positive relationships, supporting team initiatives, and seeking opportunities for growth and development
• Respond to emergent situations and provide patient supervision or assistance as appropriate

Position: Full-Time Patient Care Technician
Department: 4 South Surgical Stepdown Unit
Location: UPMC Passavant
Shifts: 36 hours per week, rotating shifts; off-shift and holidays required

Title and rate of pay will be determined based upon individual qualifications, experience, and education. The minimum hourly starting rates for each level are as follows:

• Care Attendant: $18.19
• Nursing Assistant: $18.59
• Patient Care Technician: $18.99
• Patient Care Technician, Senior: $19.19
