Job summary

UPMC Passavant in Pittsburgh is seeking a Full-Time Night Patient Care Technician to join the 5 South Neurosurgical Unit. This role provides direct patient care under RN direction, supports ADLs, therapies, and safety in a high-acuity unit.

36 hours per week with straight nights; compensation includes shift differentials. Candidates need at least 6 months of direct patient care experience. The position offers growth opportunities within UPMC's patient-centered care environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 months of direct patient care experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under RN direction, including assisting with ADLs, procedures, and therapies
• Perform core PCT responsibilities, including vital signs, point-of-care testing, telemetry application, specimen collection, bladder scans, EKGs, and basic dressings
• Assist with unit and patient needs (e.g., responding to call lights, meal delivery, patient transport, and monitoring)
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment while following infection control and safety protocols
• Monitor patients and report changes in condition or equipment issues promptly
• Document care accurately and complete clerical tasks as needed
• Support unit operations by stocking supplies and assisting with department activities
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to support coordinated care
• Demonstrate professionalism by building positive relationships, supporting team initiatives, and seeking opportunities for growth and development
• Respond to emergent situations and provide patient supervision or assistance as appropriate

Qualifications

Title and rate of pay will be determined based upon individual qualifications, experience, and education. Candidates must have at least 6 months of direct patient care experience, and will receive a $2/hour differential to their base rate plus the current off-shift differential while meeting program requirements.

The minimum hourly starting rates for each level are as follows:

• Care Attendant: $18.19


• Nursing Assistant: $18.59


• Patient Care Technician: $18.99


• Patient Care Technician, Senior: $19.19
