Job summary

UPMC Passavant is seeking a Part-Time Patient Care Technician for the 4 South Surgical Stepdown Unit. The role supports the RN team with direct patient care, vital signs, and routine procedures in a fast-paced hospital setting.

The position offers rotating shifts and requires delivering compassionate, safe patient care while upholding infection control standards. Compensation varies by level, with starting hourly rates shown for several care roles.

Qualifications

• Title and rate of pay will be determined based upon individual qualifications, experience, and education.
• Starting hourly rates: Care Attendant $18.19, Nursing Assistant $18.59, Patient Care Technician $18.99, PCT Senior $19.19

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under RN direction, including assisting with ADLs, procedures, and therapies
• Perform core PCT responsibilities, including vital signs, point-of-care testing, telemetry application, specimen collection, bladder scans, EKGs, and basic dressings
• Assist with unit and patient needs (e.g., responding to call lights, meal delivery, patient transport, and monitoring)
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment while following infection control and safety protocols
• Monitor patients and report changes in condition or equipment issues promptly
• Document care accurately and complete clerical tasks as needed
• Support unit operations by stocking supplies and assisting with department activities
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to support coordinated care
• Demonstrate professionalism by building positive relationships, supporting team initiatives, and seeking opportunities for growth and development
• Respond to emergent situations and provide patient supervision or assistance as appropriate
