Job summary

UPMC Passavant in Pittsburgh is seeking a Casual Patient Care Technician to join the Inpatient Rehab team. You will support RN‑directed care, assist with ADLs, monitor patients, perform tests, and help maintain a safe, clean environment while following infection control protocols.

Shifts total 36 hours in a 6‑week cycle with rotating schedules, and pay starts at $18.19–$19.19 per hour depending on level. Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, completion of UPMC PCT

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One of: one year of patient care experience; enrollment in PT/OT/PA program with at least one completed clinical rotation; bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field.
• Successful completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician training.
• Completion of basic information systems training.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Medication access limited to distribution to licensed nursing staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under RN direction, including assisting with ADLs, procedures, and therapies.
• Perform core PCT responsibilities, including vital signs, point-of-care testing, telemetry application, specimen collection, bladder scans, EKGs, and basic dressings.
• Assist with unit and patient needs (e.g., responding to call lights, meal delivery, patient transport, and monitoring).
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment while following infection control and safety protocols.
• Monitor patients and report changes in condition or equipment issues promptly.
• Document care accurately and complete clerical tasks as needed.
• Support unit operations by stocking supplies and assisting with department activities.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to support coordinated care.
• Demonstrate professionalism by building positive relationships, supporting team initiatives, and seeking opportunities for growth and development.
• Respond to emergent situations and provide patient supervision or assistance as appropriate.

Title and rate of pay will be determined based upon individual qualifications, experience, and education. The minimum hourly starting rates for each level are as follows:

• Care Attendant: $18.19
• Nursing Assistant: $18.59
• Patient Care Technician: $18.99
• Patient Care Technician, Senior: $19.19

Licensure/Certification/Clearances:

• Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification (AHA-compliant with skills demonstration) required within 30 days of hire
• Act 34 Criminal Clearance
• Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
• Act 33 with renewal
• Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
