Job summary

UPMC Passavant in the Pittsburgh area is seeking a Casual Patient Care Technician to support inpatient rehab patients under RN supervision, delivering direct care and assisting with activities of daily living.

The role emphasizes compassionate, reliable care, accurate documentation, and teamwork with nurses and therapists to ensure patient comfort and safety on every shift.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under RN direction
• Perform core PCT responsibilities including vital signs, point-of-care testing, telemetry application, specimen collection, bladder scans, EKGs, and basic dressings
• Assist with unit and patient needs (e.g., respond to call lights, meal delivery, patient transport)
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment following infection control and safety protocols
• Monitor patients and report changes in condition or equipment issues promptly
• Document care accurately and complete clerical tasks as needed
• Support unit operations by stocking supplies and assisting with department activities
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to support coordinated care
• Demonstrate professionalism by building positive relationships and seeking growth opportunities
• Respond to emergent situations and provide patient supervision or assistance as appropriate

Position: Casual Patient Care Technician

Department: Inpatient Rehab

Location: UPMC Passavant

Shifts: 36 hours in a 6-week scheduling period; rotating

Title and rate of pay will be determined based upon individual qualifications, experience, and education. The minimum hourly starting rates for each level are as follows:

• Care Attendant: $18.19
• Nursing Assistant: $18.59
• Patient Care Technician: $18.99
• Patient Care Technician, Senior: $19.19
