Job summary

UPMC Passavant is seeking a Part-Time Patient Care Technician for the 5 East Annex Flex Unit. This role provides direct patient care under RN direction, with 24 hours per week on rotating shifts, in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Responsibilities include vital signs, telemetry, EKGs, specimen collection, ADLs assistance, and maintaining safety and infection control. You will communicate with patients and families and support unit operations as part of Life Changing Medicine at UPMC.

Qualifications

• Experience assisting with ADLs and therapies.
• Proficient in monitoring and recording vital signs.
• Ability to follow infection control protocols.
• Excellent communication with patients and team.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under RN direction.
• Perform core PCT duties: vital signs, telemetry, EKGs, specimen collection.
• Assist with call lights, meals, transport and patient needs.
• Maintain safe, clean, and organized environment.
• Monitor patients and report changes promptly.
• Document care and complete clerical tasks.
• Support unit operations by stocking supplies.
• Communicate with patients, families, and healthcare team.
• Demonstrate professionalism and pursue growth opportunities.
• Respond to emergent situations and provide supervision as needed.

Position: Part-Time Patient Care Technician Department: 5 East Annex Flex Unit Location: UPMC Passavant Shifts: 24 hours per week; rotating shifts

Title and rate of pay will be determined based upon individual qualifications, experience, and education. The minimum hourly starting rates for each level are as follows:

• Care Attendant: $18.19
• Nursing Assistant: $18.59
• Patient Care Technician: $18.99
• Patient Care Technician, Senior: $19.19

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct patient care under RN direction, including assisting with ADLs, procedures, and therapies
• Perform core PCT responsibilities, including vital signs, point-of-care testing, telemetry application, specimen collection, bladder scans, EKGs, and basic dressings
• Assist with unit and patient needs (e.g., responding to call lights, meal delivery, patient transport, and monitoring)
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment while following infection control and safety protocols
• Monitor patients and report changes in condition or equipment issues promptly
• Document care accurately and complete clerical tasks as needed
• Support unit operations by stocking supplies and assisting with department activities
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to support coordinated care
• Demonstrate professionalism by building positive relationships, supporting team initiatives, and seeking opportunities for growth and development
• Respond to emergent situations and provide patient supervision or assistance as appropriate
