Job summary

Qualifications

• Must meet PDE credentialing requirements for Special Education Paraeducators or be willing to complete within 6 months.
• Minimum of 2 years postsecondary study with a minimum of 48 credit hours, transcript required within 30 days.
• Possess an associate degree or higher; transcripts required within 30 days.
• Must meet a rigorous standard of quality as demonstrated through an approved assessment within 6 months of employment.
• Provide evidence of 20 hours of staff development activities related to the position each school year; pro-ration based on hire date.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional support to the teacher and students under the supervision of the program supervisor of special education.
• Assist with lifting and handling students and assistive devices as needed.
• Carry out routine tasks to support classroom activities and student engagement.

Status: Part-time

Schedule: 6.75 Hours/Day (8:30 am-3:15 pm) Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 185 Days/Year - Early Intervention follows a stretch calendar that includes a summer session.

Minimum Hourly Salary: $20.00

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The paraeducators assigned to special education classes or programs provide instructional support to the teacher (instructional leader) and students and are under the general supervision of the program supervisor of special education.

  • Havecompletedatleast2yearsofpostsecondarystudywithaminimumof48credithours.Copyof transcript required within 30 days of employment.
  • Possessanassociatedegreeorhigher.Copyofdegreeortranscriptsrequiredwithin30daysof employment.
  • Meetarigorousstandardofqualityasdemonstratedthroughanapprovedformofassessmentwithin6 months of employment.

AND

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:

The strength and ability to lift and/or assist in lifting students ranging in age from pre-school to twenty-one and any assistive appliances, for example: wheelchair. The ability to physically restrain students in emotional stress by using the Crisis Prevention Institute Training (CPI), Safe Crisis Management (SCM) or Quality Behavior Supports (QBS) method, depending on program need, for which training will be provided.
