Position Details

Position: Part‑time paraeducator for special education classes or programs.

Schedule: 6.75 hours/day, 8:30 am – 3:15 pm, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. 185 days/year. Early Intervention follows a stretch calendar that includes a summer session.

Minimum hourly salary: $18.90.

Purpose of Position

The paraeducator assigned to special education classes or programs provides instructional support to the teacher (instructional leader) and students under the general supervision of the program supervisor of special education.

Responsibilities

Provide instructional support to teachers and students in special education settings.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or High School Equivalency.
• Credential of Competency for Special Education Paraeducators through the PA Department of Education (or willing to complete within 6 months). Submit credential copy within 30 days.
• At least 2 years of post‑secondary study (minimum 48 credit hours). Submit transcript within 30 days.
• Associate degree or higher. Submit degree or transcripts within 30 days.
• Demonstrated rigorous standard of quality through an approved assessment within 6 months.
• Provide evidence of 20 hours of staff development activities related to the position each school year. Prorated based on date of hire.

Skills

• Verbal communication skills and ability to follow directions.
• Basic computer skills: data entry, internet/email usage, word processing, spreadsheets.

Certifications

• Desired: CPR/First Aid/AED.
• Required: Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), Safe Crisis Management Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention (SCM) or Quality Behavioral Solutions: Safety‑Care Crisis Prevention (QBS), as directed by program needs.

Essential Physical Requirements

Strength and ability to lift and/or assist students ranging in age from pre‑school to twenty‑one, including assistive appliances such as wheelchairs. Ability to physically restrain students in emotional distress using CPI, SCM, or QBS methods, with training provided as necessary.
