Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Current Red Cross Lifeguard or equivalent certification is required.
• CPR/First Aid/AED certifications must be maintained.
• Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
• Demonstrate lifeguard skills per YMCA standards.
• Good communication and ability to interact with diverse groups.

Responsibilities

• Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
• Responds to emergencies per YMCA policies and safe-in-six model.
• Maintains positive relationships with members and staff.
• Follows safety rules and maintains records as required by YMCA/Health Department.
• Performs equipment checks and ensures necessary equipment is available.
• Performs chemical testing when not guarding and takes appropriate action.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings.
• Models relationship-building and clear communication within area of responsibility.

Education

Red Cross Lifeguard certification (or equivalent)
