Job summary

Theuniversityunion is seeking a Lifeguard to monitor pool areas and uphold member safety under the supervision of the Aquatics Director. The role emphasizes vigilance, quick emergency response, and strong communication to ensure a safe environment.

Responsibilities include testing chemicals, performing equipment checks, and participating in trainings to align with YMCA standards. This is a part-time, non-exempt position requiring at least 16 years old and current lifeguard certifications.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen certifications required.
• Current Red Cross Lifeguard or equivalent.
• Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
• Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people.

Responsibilities

• Maintain active surveillance of the pool area.
• Know and follow emergency procedures and respond to emergencies per YMCA policies.
• Maintain positive relationships with members and staff.
• Apply safety rules for pool and aquatic areas; keep records as required.
• Perform equipment checks and ensure availability of required equipment.
• Check the pool for hazardous conditions on arrival.
• Perform chemical testing when not guarding and take action as needed.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings.
• Demonstrate strong relationship-building in all interactions.
• Maintain clear communication within the area of responsibility.
