Job summary

The Foundation YMCA in Wilson, NC is seeking a part-time Lifeguard to ensure the safety of swimmers and maintain a welcoming environment. You will monitor activities, respond to emergencies, perform first aid or CPR, and assist with pool opening/closing, while upholding safety policies.

Responsibilities include enforcing rules, maintaining equipment, and participating in drills and continued training to ensure readiness. The role emphasizes customer service and calm, swift action in emergencies.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 16.
• Current YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.
• Strong observational and communication skills.
• Ability to remain calm and act quickly in emergency situations.
• Prior lifeguarding experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.

Responsibilities

• Monitor pool activities and enforce all safety rules and regulations.
• Respond quickly and effectively to all emergency situations.
• Administer first aid, CPR, or AED as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of pool deck and surrounding areas.
• Inspect and ensure proper functioning of safety equipment.
• Participate in regular in-service training and emergency drills.
• Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive attitude.
• Complete incident and accident reports accurately and promptly.
• Assist with pool opening and closing procedures.
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
• Other duties as assigned.
