Job summary

Theuniversityunion is seeking a part-time Lifeguard to ensure safe swimming conditions in the pool and surrounding areas. You will monitor the pool, respond to emergencies, and uphold YMCA safety standards while engaging with members and staff.

Responsibilities include surveillance, safety procedures, record-keeping, and participating in trainings. Must be 16+ with current lifeguard and CPR/AED certifications; Red Cross certification preferred.

Qualifications

• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen certifications are required.
• Current Red Cross Lifeguard or equivalent credential is required.
• Must be at least 16 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Maintain active surveillance of the pool area.
• Respond to emergencies per YMCA policies and the safe-in-six model, completing reports as required.
• Build positive relationships with members and staff.
• Apply safety rules and maintain records per YMCA and health department codes.
• Conduct equipment checks and ensure availability of needed equipment.
• Inspect pool for hazards on arrival and perform chemical testing when not guarding.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings.
• Demonstrate strong communication within the area of responsibility.
