Job summary

Theuniversityunion is seeking a Lifeguard to help maintain safe swimming conditions at our Pittsboro facility. You will monitor the pool, deck, and surrounding areas, ensuring a safe and engaging atmosphere for members under YMCA guidelines.

The role requires current lifeguard certification, CPR, First Aid, and emergency oxygen training, with additional YMCA certifications due within 30 days. A part-time, non-exempt schedule supports member safety and community engagement.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen certifications.
• YMCA certifications within 30 days of hire.
• Current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent.
• Maintain certification readiness and fitness.
• Lifeguard skills per YMCA standards.
• Ability to relate to diverse groups; multilingual a plus.

Responsibilities

• Maintain active surveillance of the pool area.
• Respond immediately to emergencies per YMCA policies and the safe-in-six model.
• Maintain positive relationships with members and staff.
• Apply safety rules and keep pool area records per health codes.
• Perform equipment checks and ensure necessary equipment is available.
• Check pool for hazards on arrival.
• Perform chemical testing and take appropriate action.
• Attend staff meetings and in-service training.
• Demonstrate relationship-building in all interactions.
• Maintain clear communication within area of responsibility.
