Job summary

Alamance County Public Library is seeking a part-time Library Assistant I to support informational, reference and reading needs of patrons. The role involves staff at public service desks, assisting with collections, and helping patrons with technology and online resources.

The position requires a high school diploma, at least one year of customer service experience, and availability for one evening per week and weekends.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; some college preferred.
• One year of customer service experience required.
• Bilingual (Spanish) is preferred.
• Flexibility in scheduling is required.

Responsibilities

• Promote ACPL’s values and mission.
• Follow and enforce established library policies and procedures.
• Work all public service desks at May Memorial Public Library and other branches as needed.
• Assist with the maintenance of library collections.
• Assist patrons through reference interactions, reader advisory inquiries and in the use of technology and online resources.
• Work with the Branch Manager in developing, promoting, and presenting programs for adults reflective of the community demographic and patron interest.
• Increase skills and knowledge through professional reading, workshops and webinars.
• Make new library cards for patrons.
• Help patrons locate items (in our library or at a branch).
• Check materials in and out on patron accounts, empty book returns.
