Job summary

Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) seeks a Part-Time Library Assistant, Circulation & Reserves to join Fleet Library. You will assist and guide library users, open/close the library, manage circulation/reserves, and support audiovisual services.

The role emphasizes inclusivity and excellent service in a campus setting. The position requires a Bachelor's degree with 2+ years in customer service; familiarity with library systems (Sierra) and AV equipment is preferred.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in customer service, preferably in a college or library setting.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the minimum educational requirement.

Responsibilities

Monitor the circulation/reserve desk and first-floor reading room.
Open and close the library as needed.
Ensure equipment is ready for operation.
Perform circulation functions such as checking books in and out, shelf reading, and other special tasks as assigned.
Maintain awareness of library policies and practices.
Assist students, staff, and faculty with directional and policy questions.
Refer inquiries to librarians and other appropriate contacts.
Support Curricular Video Reserves and Course Reserves functions as needed, including but not limited to: digitizing films, scanning texts, and uploading materials to course platforms.
Provide support and supervision for student employees.
Understand and be familiar with library policies and procedures; ensure that policies are carried out; and make recommendations for modifications to the supervisor.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
