Job summary

Rockport Public Library in Rockport, MA seeks a dedicated library assistant to support Circulation, ILL, Readers’ Advisory, and Reference services. You will assist patrons using the Internet and the library catalog, and participate in collection maintenance with shelving and weeding.

The role requires a bachelor’s or near completion, two years of library experience, and strong customer service, teamwork, and organizational skills. This on-site position offers growth and community impact.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or near completion required or within two years.
• Two years of library experience preferred.
• Experience with automated library networks, PCs, databases, and Internet preferred.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and be flexible.

• Strong interpersonal skills and service orientation.
• Good organizational skills with attention to detail and follow-up.
• Ability to stand, lift, bend, and stretch to retrieve materials.

Responsibilities

• Attends training sessions, staff meetings, and regional and consortium library meetings
• Performs other duties as needed

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or currently within two years of obtaining one
• Two years’ library experience
• Previous library experience using automated, integrated library network, personal computers, electronic databases, and the Internet preferred
• Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and be flexible
• Ability to work as a team member and independently
• Ability to work in a busy customer service environment
• Good interpersonal skills, friendly manner, and strong service orientation
• Good organizational skills, attention to detail, procedures, and follow up capabilities
• Standing, lifting, bending, and stretching to retrieve or reshelve library materials
