Job summary

Maricopa County Library District is seeking a part-time Library Assistant for our White Tank Library to provide routine customer service, service routing, and clerical support. You will guide customers to explore and use library services and resources, and contribute to a dynamic team serving the community.

The role requires two years of customer service experience, a high school diploma or GED, and familiarity with library automation such as Polaris ILS.

Qualifications

• Two years of customer service experience.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Post-secondary education may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
• Experience with Polaris ILS or library automation systems is valued.
• Experience retrieving information from library databases.
• Experience working or volunteering in a public library.
• Experience assisting customers with online account payments and account management.
• Bilingual skills in Spanish and English.

Responsibilities

• Issues, verifies, and renews library cards for customers.
• Informs customers of account status and answers basic reference questions.
• Resolves customer concerns by phone, in person, or by email/online.
• Refers customer concerns to the appropriate staff member or supervisor.
• Initiates search for materials claimed returned.
• Processes library materials for shelving and routing.
• Performs opening or closing duties as assigned.
• Assists with maintenance and display of the collection.
• Assists customers with the self-service payment kiosk.
