Job summary

City of New York’s NYPD Information Technology Services Division seeks a Computer Associate (Operations) to maintain and upgrade enterprise networks, including Cisco switches/routers. You will support LAN infrastructure, schedule changes, and ensure high availability in a large metropolitan environment.

The role requires technical certification or degree with several years of related experience and offers benefits and pension under a comprehensive NYC public service package.

Qualifications

• Certificate from an accredited technical school (675 hours) with specialization in computer operations.
• Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with three years of related experience.
• Four-year high school diploma or equivalent with four years of related experience.
• At least two years of full-time experience as described in item 1 or an acceptable combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining, monitoring, installing and configuring Cisco Cat9404, Cat9300 switches, Cisco NCS 5504 and 5508 routers.
• Troubleshooting and maintenance of NYPD network LAN infrastructure including switches, firewall, racks and cabling.
• Schedule production changes and assist in solving operational and scheduling problems.
• Replace faulty production network equipment as required.
• Establish and ensure adherence to uniform performance standards and efficient methods of work.
• Manage building and upgrading systems in a large, complex computer environment with a wide communications network.

Education

Technical certificate (675 hours) in computer operations

Baccalaureate degree

High school diploma or equivalent

Education/experience combination with at least two years of computer operations experience
