Job summary

The City of New York seeks a Certified IT Administrator (LAN/WAN) to manage and support the NYPD IT infrastructure, including desktops, servers, and network services. The role requires permanent status in the title and involves extensive rollout and maintenance work across borough facilities.

As a senior IT administrator, you will administer Active Directory, coordinate large-scale hardware deployments, and document procedures while ensuring security and compliance with department policies.

Qualifications

• Professional/vendor certification(s) in LAN administration is required.
• At least a bachelor’s degree and 2 years of full-time LAN/WAN experience or 6 years IT experience with 2 years in relevant areas.
• Alternative combinations acceptable per NYC rules; 30 college credits ≈ 6 months experience; master’s may substitute for 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and deploy workstations, servers, printers, and peripherals across facilities.
• Perform preventive maintenance and health checks on devices.
• Identify and replace failing hardware/software components and document actions.
• Execute large-scale hardware rollouts and vendor repairs (e.g., Dell TechDirect).
• Diagnose and resolve complex hardware, software, and network issues; use remote tools for interventions.
• Administrate Active Directory: users, OUs, SGs, permissions, GPOs; troubleshoot domain-join/network issues.
• Maintain service tickets, troubleshooting notes, and asset management records; write SOPs/runbooks.
• Support ITB initiatives and multi-site operations; provide updates on outages and milestones.
• Comply with confidentiality and anti-corruption policies; uphold command integrity.
