Job summary

Mabbett & Associates, Inc. is seeking a Part-Time Field Archaeologist to support Phase I surveys and site testing along the Eastern Seaboard and beyond. Flexible, project-based assignments year-round, with travel and overnight projects

Responsibilities include shovel test pits, recording field data, and coordinating with senior staff. Requires a Master’s degree in a related field and CRM field experience; travel-ready candidate with valid US driver’s license preferred.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, Historic Preservation, or a related field.
• 1–2 years CRM field experience, preferably Northeastern or Mid-Atlantic U.S.
• Demonstrated ability to recognize prehistoric and historic-period artifacts.
• Experience identifying soil horizons (stratigraphy, Munsell, texture).
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and digital field mapping.

Responsibilities

• Perform shovel test pits, test units, and pedestrian surveys under supervision.
• Record field data, soil profiles, photo logs, and map data digitally.
• Help with equipment maintenance, packing gear, and site setup/breakdown.
• Follow safety protocols, comply with land use permits, and state regulations.
