Job summary

APS Stevedoring LLC is seeking a Part Time Contract Superintendent for our Brunswick location. The role averages 15-30 hours per week and supervises union-represented labor to run safe, efficient operations on the vessel and terminal.

The Superintendent will analyze needs, direct labor, enforce safety rules, address grievances, and plan workforce needs. Candidates should have experience with union labor, safety codes, and a capacity to manage a large, diverse team in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• Experience in managing related union labor.
• Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations.
• Knowledge and understanding of cargo stowage and stability strongly desired.
• Ability to manage a large, complex and diverse workforce in a fast-paced environment.
• Analytical and problem solving skills needed to respond quickly and effectively to operational issues.
• Ability to plan and organize projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Availability to work varied hours, shifts and days.
• Ability to communicate effectively with union-represented workforce and other staff.
• Accountability for a safe and efficient operation, together with the ability to maintain a positive working relationship with union-represented and other employees.
• TWIC Card: apply for TWIC prior to start date; DHS approval/renewal required.

Responsibilities

• Analyze operational needs and assign and direct labor to perform operations efficiently and safely.
• Supervise union-represented employees and review discipline and termination recommendations.
• Direct preparation of department plans and determine workforce requirements.
• Address grievances submitted by labor and respond to union business agents.
• Assist with daily safety and operations meetings and develop plans to address hazards.
• Perform other related duties as needed.
