Job description

One of Brunel's clients is currently looking for a Marine superintendent to join them on a long term contract for a major LNG project. They are looking to bring this person in the second quarter.

The Marine Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all marine operations associated with the LNG export facility, including vessel traffic coordination, marine safety, terminal interface activities, and regulatory compliance. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and compliant movement of LNG carriers and support vessels while maintaining alignment with company standards, U.S. Coast Guard regulations, and port authority requirements.

The Marine Superintendent serves as the primary marine subject matter expert, coordinating between terminal operations, marine pilots, tug operators, regulatory agencies, and LNG vessel representatives to ensure safe and reliable marine logistics.

Key Responsibilities
Marine Operations
  • Oversee daily marine operations, including LNG carrier arrivals, departures, berthing, and unberthing activities.
  • Coordinate closely with vessel masters, marine pilots, tug services, and terminal operations to ensure safe and efficient ship movements.
  • Manage marine scheduling in alignment with commercial and terminal production plans.
  • Monitor marine weather conditions and navigational risks to support safe marine transit decisions.
Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local maritime regulations, including U.S. Coast Guard requirements.
  • Support development and maintenance of the Facility Security Plan (FSP) and related marine safety documentation.
  • Lead marine incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action implementation.
  • Conduct regular audits, drills, and emergency response exercises involving marine scenarios.
Stakeholder Coordination
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with:
  • U.S. Coast Guard
  • Pilots’ associations
  • Tug and mooring service providers
  • LNG vessel operators and charterers
  • Support stakeholder engagement related to waterway risk assessments and navigation safety reviews.
Terminal & Project Support
  • Provide marine expertise during commissioning, startup, and ongoing operations.
  • Support development of marine operating procedures and best practices.
  • Participate in marine simulations, hazard analyses (HAZID/HAZOP), and safety case development.
  • Assist in development and review of marine infrastructure design, including berths, jetties, and navigation channels.
