Job summary

ST. CHARLES HEALTH SYSTEM is seeking a Certified Surgical Technician for the Operating Room. The CST will function as a member of the perioperative team, performing scrub and second-assist duties per OR policy and Oregon law. The role emphasizes aseptic technique and patient safety.

The position requires CAHEP/ABHES or military CST education and NBSTSA/NCCT CST certification with BLS. Prior high-volume OR experience is preferred; shifts are part-time days.

Qualifications

• Required: Graduate of a CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited program, or military surgical technologist program, or combination of education and experience.
• Preferred: 1 year experience in a high-volume, multi-specialty OR.

Responsibilities

• Functions as a member of the Surgical Services Perioperative team to ensure safe, efficient patient care.
• Prepares OR, equipment, drapes and assists during surgery.
• Maintains sterile technique and follows safety policies during procedures.
• Performs counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments; participates in pre-brief, time-out and debrief.
• Gowns/gloves surgeons, passes instruments, and assists with positioning and sterile field setup.
• Delivers customer service and supports patient/family learning about the surgical experience.
