Job summary

Agupdate seeks a Part-Time Career Advising Specialist to support students in connecting their education to meaningful careers. You will provide individualized coaching, outreach, and collaboration with campus partners to promote persistence and completion.

The role emphasizes equitable advising, proactive interventions, and effective use of advising technologies to track progress and success. This is a 18.5-hour/week, non-benefited position with a focus on student outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Higher Education, Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, Career Development, Education, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• 1–3 years of experience in academic advising, career services, student success, retention, counseling, workforce development, or related student support services.
• Knowledge of career development theories and advising practices.
• Experience with diverse student populations in higher education or community-based organizations.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
• Experience utilizing student information systems, CRM platforms, or advising technologies.
• Ability to analyze student data and provide proactive interventions.
• Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive advising.

Responsibilities

• Utilize holistic advising practices to help students identify academic, career, transfer, and personal goals.
• Guide students through career exploration using labor market information, career assessments, Career Coach, and other planning resources.
• Connect academic programs, certificates, and credentials to career pathways and employment opportunities.
• Conduct proactive outreach to students identified through alerts and retention initiatives.
• Help students develop Academic and Career Success Plans integrating education with long-term career goals.
• Provide advising on academic policies, including non-attendance grades, midterm warnings, standing, withdrawals.
