Job summary

Meriwether Godsey is seeking a Part-time Baker in Roanoke, VA to prepare, bake, and present baked goods for daily meals and events at Hollins University. The role requires 1–3 years of bakery experience or a culinary degree, with part-time hours Mon, Wed, and Sat from 7a–3p.

You will maintain quality, logs, and safety standards across a fast-paced kitchen, collaborating with staff to deliver consistent products for students, faculty, and guests.

Qualifications

• Culinary Degree or 1-3 years of bakery experience required.
• Minimum 2 years' experience with high-volume food service operations.
• High levels of professionalism and strong leadership skills.
• Excellent communication and good organizational skills.
• Flexibility; ability to switch between locations and job duties.
• Growing knowledge of sustainable practices.

Responsibilities

• Ensure quality and timeliness of food production, using batch-cooking methods to maintain quality and freshness.
• Use traditional, made-from-scratch preparation methods and keep accurate production logs.
• Ensure daily bakery range is made to a high standard in a timely, safe, and consistent manner.
• Prepare doughs, fillings, batters, icings, and other components by measuring ingredients.
• Use tools such as hand mixers, electric mixers, and cooking machinery to blend ingredients.
• Cook baked goods in ovens or on grills using appropriate molds/pans.
• Decorate cakes, pastries, and other baked goods for birthdays, weddings, and events.
• Collaborate with production staff to integrate ingredients into daily recipes and menus.
• Assist in production of some savory foods as needed.
• Assist in maintaining quality and HACCP records.
