Job summary

Meriwether Godsey is looking for a Part‑time Baker to prepare, bake, and present baked goods for Hollins University in Roanoke, VA. The role supports daily meals and special events on campus, with a focus on quality and presentation.

You will work Monday, Wednesday & Saturday, 7a-3p, using traditional scratch methods and maintaining production logs. Expect teamwork, safety, and timely output in a fast‑paced environment.

Qualifications

• Culinary degree or 1-3 years of bakery experience.
• Minimum 2 years' experience with high‑volume food service, preferably in school environments.
• ServSafe Certification preferred.
• High levels of professionalism and strong leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensure quality and timeliness of food production using batch cooking.
• Use scratch preparation methods and keep production logs.
• Maintain high standard daily bakery range in a timely, safe way.
• Prepare doughs, fillings, batters, icings with measured ingredients.
• Use ovens, grills, and molds to bake items properly.
• Decorate cakes and pastries, including custom decorations.
• Collaborate with production staff to integrate ingredients daily.
• Assist in producing savory items as needed.
• Adhere to HACCP and food safety and sanitation standards.

Job description

Meriwether Godsey is looking for a Part‑time Baker, responsible for the preparation, cooking, and presentation of baked goods for daily meals and special events at Hollins University, an independent liberal arts university serving over 800 students, faculty, and staff on a beautiful campus nestled in the heart of Roanoke, VA.

• Must be able to work Part‑time: Monday, Wednesday & Saturday, 7a-3p
• Pay rate: $17 per hour

What You Will Do

• Ensure quality and timeliness of food production, using batch‑cooking methods to maintain the quality and freshness of the product.
• Use traditional, made‑from‑scratch preparation methods and keep accurate production logs.
• Ensure that the daily bakery range is made to a high standard in a timely, safe, and consistent manner.
• Prepare doughs, fillings, batters, icings, and other components by measuring or weighing ingredients using graduated containers or scales to ensure uniformity.
• Use tools such as hand mixers, electric mixers, and cooking machinery to blend ingredients to create high‑quality baked goods.
• Cook prepared baked goods in ovens or on grills as needed, using molds, pans, or sheets, depending on the proper baking technique for the item.
• Decorate cakes, pastries, and other baked goods, including custom‑made decorations for birthdays, weddings, and other special events.
• Work collaboratively alongside other production staff to incorporate key ingredients/products into recipes and menu offerings daily
• Will assist in the production of some savory foods, including some composed and bound salads and other items as needed
• Assist in maintaining quality and performing tasks quickly and efficiently
• Adhere to food safety and sanitation standards, and all HACCP recordings

What You Need

• Culinary Degree or 1-3 years of bakery experience required
• Minimum 2 years' experience with high‑volume food service operations, preferably in school environments.
• High levels of professionalism and strong leadership skills
• Excellent communication and good organizational skills
• Flexibility; ability to switch between locations and job duties
• Growing knowledge of sustainable practices.
• ServSafe® Food Protection Manager Certification preferred
