Job summary

Avamere Living is seeking an ASL Staff Interpreter at Avamere at Chestnut Lane in Gresham, OR. This part-time and per diem role requires advanced ASL proficiency and specialized tactile/close-vision interpreting to support Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing residents.

The interpreter will facilitate communication with residents, staff, and medical personnel, narrate environmental information, and assist with daily activities while maintaining HIPAA privacy and confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Membership and/or certification with RID or BEI is required.
• Advanced capability in Deaf Blind communication including tactile ASL and Pro-Tactile.
• 2–3 years of professional interpreting experience; healthcare or senior living preferred.
• Fluency in ASL; familiarity with tactile sign language and diverse deaf-blind communication systems.
• Active CPR/BLS during employment is required.

Responsibilities

• Interpret between residents, staff, and medical personnel using ASL, English, and tactile signing.
• Narrate visual and environmental information for Deaf Blind residents.
• Read/translate documents into accessible sign language formats for residents.
• Collaborate with care staff and professionals to ensure consistent care.
• Assist residents with ADLs, navigation, and participation in activities.
