Job summary

Avamere in Gresham, OR is seeking a part-time and per diem ASL Staff Interpreter to facilitate essential communication for Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind residents. The role requires advanced ASL proficiency and tactile signing, with duties spanning interpretation, narration, and collaboration with healthcare staff.

Responsibilities include assisting residents with ADLs, navigation, and activities, while maintaining HIPAA-compliant records and a warm, supportive environment.

Qualifications

• RID or BEI certification required.
• Proficiency in ASL and tactile ASL, Pro-Tactile.
• 2–3 years interpreting experience; healthcare or senior living preferred.
• CPR/BLS active during employment; HIPAA compliance.

Responsibilities

• Interpret between residents, staff, and medical personnel using ASL, English, and tactile signing.
• Narrate visual and environmental information for Deaf Blind residents.
• Read/translate documents into accessible sign language for residents.
• Collaborate with interpreters, care staff, and medical professionals to ensure consistent care.
• Assist residents with ADLs, navigation, and participation in activities.
