Job summary

LACOE Expanded seeks a part-time Program Leader to guide after-school academic, cultural and recreational activities in Montebello, CA. Under a Program Coordinator, you will foster a safe, inspiring environment for K-12 youth in a school setting.

Responsibilities include planning daily activities, maintaining a 20:1 ratio, coordinating with staff, guardians and community partners, and ensuring safety, attendance tracking and program quality.

Qualifications

• Experience with students in grades K-12 in recreational/educational/youth outreach settings.
• Ability to work cooperatively with school district staff, parents and community leaders.
• Familiarity with quality criteria for after-school programs.
• Strong communication, sensitivity to others, and calm response to emergencies.
• Must be 18+ years old.
• Education requirements: HS diploma/GED and ASAS-LA exam or some college/degree.
• Criminal record fingerprint clearance.
• TB clearance.
• Ability to lead and participate in structured activities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Fluency in a non-English language is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead and assist in planning and implementing daily after-school activities under supervision.
• Maintain a 20:1 student ratio using recruitment and retention strategies.
• Build positive relationships with youth, guardians and school staff to increase program visibility.
• Provide attendance data, progress reports and concerns per quality improvement processes.
• Prepare engaging learning environments with necessary supplies; monitor inventory and safety.
• Supervise students during activities to ensure safety and support.
• Communicate with staff and guardians about program events, needs and performance.
• Attend staff meetings and professional development.
• Support field trips and events as needed.
• Distribute and track meals and snacks per school protocols.
• Maintain program spaces and equipment in good condition.
• Understand and enforce safety standards; be available for evenings and weekends.
• Travel to and from sites for meetings, trainings and events.
• Collaborate to run organization-wide programs and take on other duties as needed.
