Job summary

City of Indianapolis Marion County is seeking a Parks & Recreation program coordinator to design and deliver aquatic, day camp, and sports programs. You will schedule classes, coordinate committees, and assist in staffing while ensuring safety and policy compliance.

Responsibilities include community outreach, marketing with Communications, and revenue processing. The role requires a 21+ age, Indiana license, and a commitment to equity in a diverse organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Physical Education, Recreation Administration, and/or related field preferred.
• One (1) year of related work experience may be substituted for each year of formal education.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Ability to plan and organize events and meetings, including agendas and timelines.
• Ability to coordinate multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
• Must have knowledge of Word, Excel, and Publisher.
• Licenses/certifications: Indiana operator's license.
• Ability to obtain NYSCA Clinician Certification; CPRP and First Aid preferred.

Responsibilities

• Designs, implements, and evaluates programs and services (aquatic, day camp, recreational, sports, events).
• Schedules classes and assists in leading classes.
• Follows Indy Parks and Recreation policies and procedures.
• Interacts with community committees and boards as requested.
• Assists in recruiting, hiring, training, evaluating, and advising on-site personnel, volunteers, and contractors.
• Supervises participant safety during programs.
• Coordinates safety assessments with managers and risk manager for a safe experience.
• Manages daily program communications within the organization and with the community.
• Works with Communications to market programs and events.
• Uses social media to highlight programs and services.
• Responsible for revenue collection and deposits.
• May complete reports and forms.
• Supervises supplies, equipment, and facilities usage.
• Sets up/breaks down for activities and events.
• Enforces rules and regulations.
• Maintains cleanliness and professional appearance of work site; represents department positively.
• May coordinate inspections with supervisors, maintenance, risk manager, and DPW for safety.
• Supports participants, volunteers, and staff during activities.
• Keeps records for reporting and audits.
• Utilizes software and tech platforms (ActiveNet, InforPS, MS Office, PeopleSoft, NeoGov, WebEx) for organization and documentation.
• Assists in customer service relations at park location and program marketing.
• Maintains confidentiality at all times.
• Other duties may be required.
