Job summary

City of Birmingham is hiring a part-time Parking Enforcement Assistant to work 24 hours per week under Police Department supervision. Schedule averages 24 hours weekly, mainly nights and weekends. Starts at $21.88 per hour with annual increases; max $29.37/hr after 30 months and will rise with yearly adjustments.

Outdoor work in varying weather is required. The role involves patrolling, enforcing meters and zones, issuing citations, and assisting motorists.

Qualifications

• Time management and effective communication are essential.
• Ability to de-escalate tense situations in the field.
• Experience handling public interactions and inquiries is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Patrols assigned areas by vehicle and on foot to check meters and zones.
• Investigates parking violations and responds to complaints.
• Issues parking citations and explains regulations to the public.
• Provides information and assistance to motorists and pedestrians.
• Reports unusual situations observed during patrols.
• Reports defective/non-functioning parking meters.
• Submits daily activity summaries of citations.
• Confers with billing/collections on questions or problems.
• Operates radio communications with Police Station; uses citation-reporting equipment.
• Assists with department activities, including events and animal-control enforcement.
• Performs additional related duties as assigned.
