Job summary

The City of Birmingham, Michigan, is seeking a part-time Parking Enforcement Assistant (PEA) to work 24 hours per week under Police Department supervision. The role mainly involves outdoor work, with hours set by the police department, primarily nights and weekends.

Salary ranges from $21.88 to $29.37 per hour, with annual increases and a step-based max after 30 months. Duties include enforcing parking regulations, citations, and motorist assistance, plus occasional animal-control enforcement

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; related coursework preferred.
• 1–2 years of public contact experience.
• Valid Michigan driver's license with good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Regular patrolling of assigned areas by vehicle or on foot to check meters and zones for violations.
• Investigate complaints regarding parking violations.
• Issue parking citations and advise on regulations.
• Provide information and assistance to motorists and pedestrians.
• Submit daily summaries of parking activity and citations.
• Coordinate with billing on questions or problems.
• Operate radio and city systems to issue and report citations.
• Assist in department activities, including events and animal-control enforcement.
• Other related duties as assigned.
