Job summary

City of Birmingham is seeking a part-time Parking Enforcement Assistant to enforce parking ordinances. The role is 24 hours per week, primarily nights and weekends, supervised by the Police Department.

Starts at $21.88 per hour with annual increases; the max rate is $29.37 per hour after 30 months, subject to yearly adjustments. The position involves outdoor work in varying weather, and duties include patrolling, issuing citations, assisting the public, and support for department activities and

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework in criminal justice preferred.
• 1–2 years of prior work with substantial public contact.
• Valid Michigan Driver's License with a good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Regularly patrols assigned areas in vehicle and on foot to check meters and parking zones for violations.
• Investigates complaints regarding parking violations.
• Issues parking citations and advises citizens on regulations.
• Provides information to motorists and pedestrians.
• Reports unusual situations observed during patrols.
• Reports defective and non-functioning parking meters.
