Job summary

St. Edward's University Parking Enforcement Officer is responsible for patrolling campus parking areas, enforcing parking regulations, and ensuring safe, accessible parking for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

The role requires use of campus systems, strong observation, and clear communication. Ideal candidates will be comfortable performing patrols in all weather, handling crises calmly, and assisting the university community with directions and information.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or equivalent is required.
• Must be 21+ at time of employment, U.S. citizen, valid Texas Driver's License, and good driving record.
• Successful background check, physical test and drug screening are required.

Responsibilities

• Patrol campus parking lots and garages by vehicle or on foot.
• Verify permits using mobile license plate recognition and enforce regulations.
• Issue citations or warnings for violations and manage tow procedures as needed.
• Assist campus community with directions, parking information, and emergencies.
• Set up temporary signage and maintain two-way radio communications with UPD.

St. Edward's University of Austin, Texas invites applications for the position of Parking Enforcement Officer). The Parking Enforcement Officer operates under the University Police Department to maintain campus traffic flow, enforce university parking regulations 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and ensure accessible, safe parking facilities for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required. An employee in this position must be 21 years or older at time of employment; a U.S. citizen, have a valid Texas Driver's License, Current and valid Class C Texas Motor Vehicle Operators License, and have a good driving record and in compliance with university insurance carrier. Not currently under indictment for any criminal offense; Never been convicted of an offense above a Class C Misdemeanor Never been convicted of any family violence offense; Not prohibited by state or federal law from operating a motor vehicle; Successfully complete extensive background check, physical test and drug screening. Must be insurable by university carrier.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will have general competency in the use of MS Word and MS Excel and be able to learn other equipment and programs. Prior parking enforcement experience preferred. Experience in college or university setting preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Must be possess good organizational skills, maintain high quality control standards. Ability to learn St. Edward's University Parking Regulations and St. Edward's University policies. Ability to walk for long periods in all weather conditions. Ability to sit, stand, walk, and lift 50 pounds. Ability to write legibly and accurately record information. Ability to complete work assignments, take and understand direction. Must be able to handle crisis situations in a calm and effective manner. Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally. Ability to establish and maintain effective and appropriate relationships with the St. Edward's University community and visitors.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Conduct patrols of campus parking lots and garage in vehicle and on foot.
• Utilize mobile License Plate Recognition technology to verify virtual permits (vPermits) and compliance with Traffic and Parking Regulations.
• Issue citations and/or warnings for unregistered vehicles, vehicles parked in incorrect areas, or exceeding designated time limits.
• Utilize immobilization device or initiate tow for vehicles with excessive unpaid citations or severe violations of Traffic and Parking Regulations.
• Act as a visible representative of the university by offering campus directions, parking tier guidance, and general information to community members and guests.
• Assist drivers with basic motorist support (e.g., jump-starting stalled vehicles) and clarify parking permit options via myHilltop or the Park ATX system.
• Set up temporary directional signage, cones, and barricades to reserve parking for events, contractors, or emergency closures.
• Maintain continuous two-way radio communication with the St. Edward's University Police Department (UPD).
• Serve as active eyes and ears on campus, immediately reporting safety hazards, damaged signage, broken EV chargers/pay stations, suspicious activities, or emergencies to UPD.
• Other duties as assigned, trained for and qualified to do.
