Job summary

Columbus Consolidated Government is seeking a Park Maintenance Worker to keep park grounds and facilities in excellent condition. The role involves mowing, edging, weed-eating, and debris removal, plus setting up stages and fences for events, assembling bleachers, benches, and trash cans, and maintaining grills and sports fields.

You will also inspect playground equipment, plant trees and shrubs, and assist with tool maintenance and minor repairs. A valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually via apprenticeship/internship or similar role for 1–2 years.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license; CDL eligibility is a plus.
• Knowledge of park maintenance methods and the operation/maintenance of equipment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain park grounds and facilities.
• Set up stages, podiums, fences, flags, and stairs for special events.
• Mow grass, edge, weed-eat, and blow leaves.
• Assemble bleachers, benches, and permanent trash cans.
• Install, maintain, and repair grills and related equipment.
• Prepare sports fields for games; mark fields and adjust goal posts as needed.
• Apply fertilizer to sod grass and plant trees/shrubs.
• Inspect or maintain playground equipment; may order parts and transport items to sites.
• Operate and maintain tools and equipment; assist with minor repairs.
