Job summary

St. Theresa Catholic Church and School in Austin seeks a Head of Accounting to oversee parish and school accounting, including general ledger, AR, AP, payroll, reconciliations, donations, financial reporting, and budgeting.

The role leads the School Accounting Lead and staff, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, and stepping in to perform school accounting duties when needed. Strong nonprofit leadership is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or closely related field.
• Five+ years of related accounting experience.
• Nonprofit or fund accounting experience preferred.
• Prior supervisory experience preferred but not required.
• Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing preferred.
• CPA certification preferred.
• Valid Texas driver's license required.
• Must maintain compliance with EIM policies.

Responsibilities

• Lead the accounting function across the parish and the school.
• Directly supervise the School Accounting Lead and clerks.
• Perform parish day-to-day accounting hands-on including GL, AR, AP.
• Prepare checks, bank deposits, and reconciliations.
• Maintain parish investments and bank accounts; prepare budget.
• Collaborate with Pastor, COO and Finance Council; attend meetings.
• Generate budget reports and annual forecast; finalize budget.
• Run payroll for parish and school employees; manage 403(b) and health insurance.
• Handle vendor payments, W9s, and 1099s; assist with fundraising.
• Maintain donor management postings and year-end contribution statements.
