Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of related community work experience, or an Associate’s degree with 4 years of related experience.
• High school diploma with 6 years of related community work experience.
• Familiarity with NYC public school system preferred.
• Experience with convening workshops preferred.
• Bilingualism favored for non-English speaking communities.
• Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
• Conflict resolution and mediation skills.
• Experience working with families and parents in education/community issues.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Increases parent involvement by working with school and community organizations.
• Facilitates parent and school community concerns and issues, including policies or facilities.
• Outreach to engage parents in their children’s education.
• Convenes regular parent meetings and events on topics of concern.
• Attends parent meetings with the principal when appropriate.
• Supports parent associations with by-laws, elections and governance per policy.
• Acts as liaison to Central and Field-based parent support staff.
• Maintains contact with community organizations serving the school program.
• Organizes back-to-school and other events to welcome parents and community.
