The Department of Education of the City of New York is seeking a Parent Coordinator to join the administrative team under the principal. You will engage with parents, including those with limited English proficiency, and work with school staff and parent associations to involve the community.

You will identify parent and community issues, facilitate meetings, support by-laws and elections, and serve as a liaison to parent support staff.

Competenze

• Bachelor’s or higher education with experience in community work related to duties described.
• Experience with convening workshops and engaging with diverse parent communities is preferred.
• Familiarity with NYC public school system is a plus.

• Increases parent involvement by working closely with school, parent, and community organizations.
• Facilitates parent and school community concerns and issues including policies or facilities.
• Conducts outreach to engage parents in their children’s education.
• Convenes regular parent meetings and events on topics of concern to parents.
• Attends parent meetings with the principal when appropriate.
• Supports establishing by-laws, elections, and governance for parent associations per Chancellor’s Regulation A-660.
• Acts as a liaison to Central and Field-based parent support staff.
• Maintains contact with community organizations providing services to the school’s educational program.
• Organizes back to school and other events to increase parental and community involvement.
