Job summary

The Department of Education of the City of New York is seeking a Parent Coordinator for Queens Explorers Elementary School to engage with parents, community groups and advisory councils. The incumbent will coordinate with the school and parent associations, convene meetings, and ensure timely action on concerns while supporting a diverse parent population.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree plus two years of related community work.
• Associate's degree plus four years of related community work.
• High school diploma plus six years of related community work.
• Familiarity with the NYC public school system preferred.
• Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Increases parent involvement by working with school, parent and community organizations.
• Facilitates parent and school community concerns including policies or facilities issues.
• Conducts outreach to engage parents in their children’s education.
• Convenes regular parent meetings and events on topics of concern to parents.
• Attends parent meetings with the principal when appropriate.
• Supports the parent association with by-laws, elections and governance per regulations.
• Serves as liaison to central and field-based parent support staff.
• Maintains contact with community organizations providing services to the school’s program.
• Organizes back-to-school and other events to enhance parental and community involvement.
