Job summary

BioLife Plasma Services is seeking a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) to support center operations and determine donor eligibility in Ames, IA. You will review medical history, perform physicals, and monitor donor safety under physician guidance.

State licensure (EMT-Paramedic) and CPR/AED certification are required, with at least two years in a clinical setting. This role is full-time at a BioLife plasma center.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent including nursing program.
• Licensed or certified EMT-Paramedic in the responsible state.
• Current CPR and AED certification.
• Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy.
• Complete FDA training for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
• Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Determine donor eligibility including informed consent, education, medical history, physical exam, and SPE review.
• Evaluate donor reactions and manage medical emergencies per SOPs and standing orders.
• Refer to Center Physician or Medical Affairs for guidance on medical or technical issues.
• Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees.
• Manage employee incidents and coordinate with occupational health/ER; follow EHS guidance.
• Serve as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized and assist investigations.

Education
