Job summary

BioLife Plasma Services in Ames, IA is seeking a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) to determine donor eligibility, review test results, and manage donor safety under supervision of the Center Manager and Center Physician.

The role requires EMT-Paramedic licensure, CPR/AED certification, IV therapy training, and 2+ years of clinical experience, with a focus on safety, compliance and quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Must be EMT-Paramedic licensed/certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned.
• CPR and AED certification required.
• Basic IV therapy training required.
• Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Determine donor eligibility, including informed consent, AIDS education, self-exclusion, medical history interview, physical examination, blood testing and SPE review.
• Evaluate donor reactions and respond per SOPs for medical emergencies, including standing orders and donor transport when needed.
• Refer to Center Physician or Medical Affairs when findings are unacceptable or guidance is required on medical or technical issues.
• Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable.
• Manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation is required by occupational health/ER; follow EHS guidance.

Education

EMT-Paramedic license
